Southeast Center for Healthy Communities

SCHC is a community health organization that promotes and supports community-based prevention efforts. Jairus is extremely fortunate to have the ongoing support of SCHC staff, who are at the forefront of the community health and prevention field.

National Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention

In response to the growing need for programs that prevent young people from engaging in delinquent behavior, the US Congress has delegated funding for delinquency prevention efforts, which is then allocated to state governments.

In Massachusetts, the Executive Office of Public Safety is responsible for distributing these funds to local communities and monitoring implementation of delinquency prevention activities. Through a competitive application process in 2004, the Town of Middleboro was one of 5 communities in MA to be awarded a 3-year delinquency prevention grant.

The Town of Middleboro currently subcontracts the Jairus Agency to implement the Strengthening Families Program, a nationally recognized model program that effectively reduces juvenile delinquency.

Juvenile Courts

Juvenile courts often assign community service to young people as part of their probationary terms. Ordinarily, the task of finding meaningful work for these teenagers falls on parents and over-burdened probation officers.

The Jairus Agency works in conjunction with courts, as well as the District Attorney’s Office, to arrange for volunteer service jobs, and ensure that they are properly supervised and documented.
